MOLDED FIBER GLASS UNION CITY IS PROUD TO ONCE AGAIN PRODUCE A BELOVED SYMBOL OF US HISTORY

Union City, PA (July 18, 2011) Molded Fiber Glass Union City (MFG UC), re-enters the world of Soap Box Derby.  In June of 2011, MFG UC was chosen to manufacture a large portion of the Master Stock racing cars beginning this summer. MFG UC began molding four different sections of the Master Car the: nose, tail, hatch and headrest. MFG UC will be molding approximately one hundred pieces of each section.  The largest molded section weighs a total of 8 pounds, is 46 inches long, and 16 inches wide. Longtime MFG employee Barb Volkmar commented “I remember over ten years ago when MFG UC molded racing cars, it’s pretty neat to see them come back as a new project”. 

The All American Soap Box Derby (AASBD) has been racing since 1934, bringing in approximately 500 finalist contestants a year to the Akron Ohio area. Contestants and visitors come from throughout the US, Europe, Japan, Germany, New Zealand, Philippines and Puerto Rico. This year’s race will be on July 23 in Akron Ohio, MFG UC manufactured racing cars will not be racing, but is in production July 2011 and the MFG UC team is very excited about next year’s race.  The Soap Box Derby is also known as “The Greatest Amateur Racing Event in the World” and “The Gravity Grand Prix” because the racing course is down a 989 foot hill.  The mixture of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, aid in the design of gravity powered racing vehicles.
